IMPORTANT UPDATE

the wall frames are finished, and the pedestal design has changed. The smallest defect in any of the 2x4s used to put them together was causing the masonite to not fit together. Ultimately it was decided, by 3 of the people who are using the pedestals and were helping out, that we will use cinder blocks for the base of the pedestals and the nice MDF for the top. This change will save us a lot of time and money.

HOWEVER, there is a catch. Even though after the show we will be able to return the cinder blocks and get our money back, we need an additional $10 per person in order to pay the bill. This was agreed on by everybody who was working today; and again, you will get your money back, but Ethan needs $10 more from everybody tomorrow. Please get with Ethan to determine how you will give him the money.

Tomorrow, Jasmine is transporting the wall frames to the site downtown, but she will need help loading and unloading her trailer. If you can assist, please be at the sculpture/ceramic area @ 8AM. She will also need help unloading the materials downtown. We should complete the attachment of the drywall tomorrow, and preferably the mudding as well. We have been trying to contact Theo about the key situation downtown, since that was never resolved.

Lastly, I looked at what it would cost to put some black fabric to cover the lower half of the walls. It would cost approximately $26.66 per 8' wall (that includes the front, back, and 2' sides) for a total of $133.30 for all the 8' walls, and $53.33 for the 12' sections, totaling $186.63. I know that is a lot of extra money we probably wont have, so what I think I am going to do is personally purchase enough to finish 1 8' section, and then we can compare a covered and uncovered wall and decide if its in our budget to purchase enough for the rest.

  2. I'm down to help tomorrow with loading and unloading and drywalling, etc etc. However, we need to make sure that the place is going to be open for us before we make Jasmine drive all the way here to load the truck. Also, if anyone has rope or some kind of fastening mechanism for securing things in a truck bed, we could use it.

Julia and I finished printing the white on the posters and they're drying now. I think Ashlee is coming in later to help Julia with printing the black.

  3. David Haxton said that we could use the rest of the drywall supplies that were in the gallery storage room. The drywall knives are his, so we need to return those to him (in other words, they cannot get lost or damaged).

  4. Here's the solution for the pedestals. After talking with experienced folks and checking home depot, all we need is corner trim. It's L shaped molding that will cover the cutting and fitting problems. I've already priced it out: 2 options
both white plastic which is paintable
    8' 11/16" x 11/16"= $2.29
    8' 1" x 1"= $4.99

I can't remember how tall the enclosed portion of the pedestals is, but if it is about 1 foot, then we can cover 2 pedestals per moulding strip. Grand total for 12 pedestals is about $20 for 11/16" or $40 for 1".

The 11/16" is the best option, will do the trick and is only going to cost the class only $20 dollars. It isn't too late to finish the job and since we already have the cut wood, I don't see why we should waste it now that we have this solution.

  6. I think the people using the pedestals should decide, but we were supposed to finish the pedestals today, and we havent actually made one yet with this new solution, so we dont know how it will look or how easily and quickly it can be done. If we are building them again then we will probably have to at the site downtown or when there is no class in the sculpture studio.

However, again I feel the people using the pedestals need to ultimately decide.

  7. I'm with Jasmine. The corner molding sounds like a good solution. Do we have money in the budget or do we need everyone to pitch $ for it like for the cinder blocks? Can we buy it tomorrow and start finishing the pedestals?

  8. Very well. I vote to use trim and finish the original pedestal design. We will all do what we have to do to finish this job! The trim will work, it's what it is made for. If everyone has to stay late or come in early to finish these, then so be it.

  9. unless you're dragging large cutting power tools down to the site, you have to do it in the sculpture studio. i'm down for finishing what we started today if we can find the time. however, i have a test tomorrow, a sculpture due wednesday and two more to finish up by friday. we need to go faster than the crawl we were at this morning. i'm thinking of going into the studio now. i was going to work on the sculpture but maybe i'll alternate between that and screwing the squares together, if that's what we want. how are we dealing with the trim and the masonite? we won't be able to mud over it. masonite puffs up when it gets too wet.

  10. Am I super dumb, or...why is masonite going on these pedestals? Why not just drywall on the frame, like the walls?

  11. can we use a trim that doesn't need to b painted over and is acceptable as is?

  12. Wow. Sounds like a lot got done this weekend. And it appears everyone still has all their fingers. Excellent.

I will be meeting Angela at 8:45 tomorrow to get the key. I then have to take my son to Rollins by 9. I can meet someone at the location at 9:30. How does that work? Who will I be meeting?

OUC SHOULD have the power on...but I think that if there's a lot of work that requires power, it should be done at school...just in case there was some confusion, and it's not turned on yet. I sent an email following up on this last Thrs. but you never know....

I need to know the "key holder" schedule.. whom am I giving the key to? How am I getting it back?
Do we have coverage down there all day? What about the rest of the week. I'd like to have just a few people responsible of the key. If you have an idea how to handle this, please start a post about that.

I suggest that we meet Becky Morgan on Wednesday.. there will be many for her to interview.

Are you all meeting tomorrow? I don't know if I'll be able to join you, but pls post progress, etc here. (besides, the silent 1/3 must be curious about what the rest of you have been doing)

  13. Okay-- about pedestals. I just talked to Ethan and Chris, and think that cinder blocks have many advantages.

    more stable
    very likely cleaner looking
    much less time consuming
materials can be returned/exchanged for paint

  14. I will be there at 9:30 to get the key. My shift runs until 3.

  15. JASMINE: YES, someone (AUDRA) will be there at 930 to receive the key from THEO so do plan on meeting up at VAB to transport frames etc to site.

WHO is getting the drywall?? I heard Kyle was getting them? (Maybe in the back of Jasmine's truck?)Either way that needs to be taken down there as well.

  16. I will NOT be able to show up Monday morning for the 7am-11am shift. By the time materials etc are dropped off downtown I'll have to be leaving for class at 11.
JASMINE, MIKE, ETHAN, AUDRA: If you need my help for loading up the trailer/truck please call 352-361-6353

  17. If the site won't be open untill 9:30, then I will show up to pick up the frames at 8:30 instead of 8:00, hope this is ok. We aren't moving the drywall though.
As far as the pedestals, clearly it would be faster to do the cinder blocks. As far as aesthetic, if everyone thinks that it would look better to do this than the wood frame, then thats a different story. Sounds like people are busy and it isn't feasable to finish the job out of the sculpture studio, so I guess we'll just do the cinder blocks then.

  19. TUESDAY MORNING SHIFT:
JOANNA JULIA JASMINE: Audra will be there around 8-8:30am to open up. Please be there to assist with completing the walls. She will inform you of the status of the walls and what needs to be completed before Ethan arrives.

AUDRA: The small blocks will have two screws to anchor it to the 2x4 and then just one short screw from the Drywall to that block. They are in the sculpture studio in a box and a white bag. Try and complete attaching the blocks to the 2x4's and drywall with the group so that when ETHAN arrives and the next group, together can finish the siding, mud shit, and corner attachments.

So, if everything goes to plan...we should be sanding and begin painting by TUES NIGHT. On that note, we need to get a sample of that grey wall and buy the gallons of paint. Maybe have someone in the morning shift have that task...once that person gets the money from Ethan?

ALL DOORS, GARAGE DOORS, LIGHTS, A/C, etc. stays closed/OFF at all possible times! TOOLS must go back in the TOOL ROOM and out of site at the end of each night.

    Thanks,
    Chris

  20. Each side of the walls will receive 2-3 blocks for normal walls and the big wall will receive 6 each side. If you have a question call Mike or I.
