promotional ideas

Press.

Here's a press release start, see if there's something here to play with/fill in blanks. Maybe highlighting certain works would be a way to grab attention:

Despite the auto industry crumbling, twenty emerging artists constructed a dealership full of valuable pieces. Driven is on April ___ at 131 North Orange Avenue. There is evocative pieces for every pair of eyes from every medium: 'gutter importance' photography finds an art afterlife for road kill, product design, ceramics capturing the ephemera of nature and more.

Posters will use image and texts from the website to ensure cohesiveness for the show. The posters(19x25in?) could be cut out as the shape of the air freshener tree, and hung by a string. So it'd be a poster size tree, sure to grab attention.
Can the treasurer give a deadline for a price list?
Tentative materials list: Canson paper for posters. mylar or transparency for printing stencils. maybe one or two white inks, i have enough to donate in other colors.

    A Few questions to consider:

Works will be for sale/ not for sale? Select works for sale?

    Opening/closing reception?

Do we want to be open in advertising that we’re students or not?

Who is the contact? Phone #, etc.?

PS: If anyone has suggestions on a quote (mine are probably bad) speak up -- it's a good thing to include.

  2. i know nothing is final yet, but my name isn't included in the list. i was just letting you know because my name isn't on the class list so it's a little confusing

  3. Shouldn't it be "There ARE evocative pieces for every pair of eyes..."

  4. If possible, try and get me a rough estimate of the material costs by Tuesday night. I'll have a budget posted to the website soon that everyone will be able to view and use as a guideline or to give me suggestions.

  5. Whoever ends up finalizing the press release, please change my name from "Alli Canfield" to "Allisanndria Canfield." (just copy and paste it, I know it's a tricky first name)

    * The question as to whether or not the works will be fore sale is a rather good one. Considering that this show is before our on campus BFA show I'm not sure how many people will be willing, or able really, to reduce the amount of work they have to display. - Hopefully others read this post and comment on personal preference.

    * Considering how quickly this show is coming up it may be best to aim for a closing reception, assuming we have an official reception at all.

    * I think that advertising the fact that we're students put a good spin on the story. "new artists, new ideas" type of thing

Also: I'm not sure how to make myself a contributor on this site - I'm willing to help out with finding sponsors for our event but I can't post a new topic to find out who else would be interested.

  6. I was unsure how to become a contributor for a long while too. There was an e-mail sent to everyone (I think) recently that invited people to become contributors. If you follow the link on that, it makes you start a google account to become a contributor.

About whether work is for sale or not, would it be acceptable if oo confct works were for sale or would that be too confusing/unprofessional?

  7. Sorry I never wrote back Audra! I had no idea what "if oo confct works" meant & I forgot to ask you today. But I think Rachel's idea of selling pieces with the understanding that actual possession wouldn't be transfered until after our campus show would work - it'd be more of a "purchase promise." It'd be a lot like someone wanting to purchase a piece that's currently on an exhibition tour.
