I was talking to one or two people in the group and were trying to figure out how to decide on what logo to use, since Im sure everybody will have their 2-cents since the logo represents the entire show. At the same time, the logo and promotional material should match with the website, which needs a main header graphic (size 900x363)
sooo... we think a vote would be best. If you want to submit a design for the show logo or the header please comment with a link to the design under this post

Let me know if you have an issue with anything. I know I am kinda bossing some stuff, but thats just because I feel we dont have much time left and need to get stuff out there. I have no issue with somebody else, or other people taking charge. If you have a problem with the dates, please let me know... but also realize we have 3 weeks left till the show and we need to get advertising out there ASAP.

This is looking great. And thanks for taking charge...I think that opening the design up for voting is a good idea, as long as submissions are in by this Friday.. and voting is done by Sunday.

ReplyDeleteI also like Danielle's work, but i think the light bulb should be the scented tree idea. If it can be replaced by a tree scent shape/form I think it'd be great.

ReplyDeleteI emailed the UCF Print Shop about being a sponsor as well. I asked for 300 11x17 posters regular paper FULL color and 1000 postcard flyers regular paper full color. Whatever support they provide I still asked for quotes on them to five us an idea. Also, for all promotional material the sponsors' logos should be on them as well. Thus far its OUC, Fields Motors, and soon to be UCF Dining Services (food trays and possible wine)

ReplyDeleteWell, I like David's ideas, either one, I think Danielle's are nice but not relevant. I agree with Chris that if the light bulb were a scented tree it would probably be better, but I would have to see it to decide.

However, my only concern with Danielle's is that the colors are so vibrant that Im not sure how I would adjust the website to make it match. I feel like both the yellow and blue are too dominant and for lack of better word "offensive" to be used as the background color of the website.

I don't think the blue and yellow colors are dominant or offensive. We need something to draw attention. I think a light gray color of even a white will be fine for the background of the website. If i could make suggestions on that though..I would consider using a different font and cleaning up the text a little bit. The simple look is good, as long as the text is nicely spaced and a clean looking font is used. Right now, i think the fact that there are so many shades of gray is making it weird.
ReplyDeleteI still think Danielle's is better, and will draw more attention. I don't mind any of them, but I think it's fresh and younger looking, and a bit more creative. Also, think about how the design is going to work on a flyer or brochure, or poster. I stands out more than the other designs. The designs for each promotional item needs to be the same or else we look like morons. I cannot see Davids first idea working as a eye grabbing poster, maybe because of the colors. Anyway, I'm just stoked about the show, I just thought I'd throw in my two cents in again. Where are everyone else's votes??
ReplyDeleteDanielle, Im working on incorporating your logo and flyer ideas into the website; since unless there is some bizarre last minute upset, the vote outcome seems obvious. The idea and designs are very cool for the logo/flyers, but I'm running into a bit of difficulty. The logo and flyer images you posted are not using the same color blue. They are SLIGHTLY different, but it will be very obvious when the differentiation creates a rectangle where one ends and the other begins. I was going to just match the colors, but I figured I would ask to see if you had some source files first that had everything separated. It would make the process much easier.

ReplyDeleteCan the two of you work together to conform the the website and other promotional materials? I think you both have good ideas and I think a collaboration between the two of you would result in a great graphic identity for the show/group.
I will have a couple of poster ideas done soon, but I need until Weds night to get them finished. If you have to act before that go ahead, but i have some pretty good ideas that I know will grab attention.

ReplyDeleteI'm getting a little lost in this blog and it's difficult to put the peices together. It would be great to be able to get together with floorplans, rough drafts of posters, ect. to put together our budget and organize our forces in person.
I like Danielle's design and I think the website has incorporated it well. However, I do agree that the white on light blue might be tough to read when we print, but it seems easily fixable if need be. (via making the white typeface have a black outline similar to the "driven" typeface or just darkening the blue?)
